Developments: Past and Present
We have many developments that we are proud of here are a few of the products and the companies we worked closely with to see them happen.
These products have all evolved from different points and through different means. Some where pre-existing products where Redgum took over the development of these and extended their functionality and lifespan far beyond what was orginially imagined.
Others came to us in concept form and we worked with the company to extend the one single concept into a full product suite. Regardless of the beginnings and what a product has been through previously Redgum's proven tools and approaches have seen all of the products grow to their full potential.
Advanced Publishing Systems was formed to bring the industry and technical expertise of Quantum 2000 and Redgum Technologies together to produce truly advanced software systems to the newsprint publishing sector.
QuickLayout
QuickLayout 2.2 accepts display advertising and booking data to dummy-up a publication quickly, ready for pre-press.
QuickLayout for Windows has been designed to integrate with your existing booking and production systems and exports to Adobe and Quark desktop publishing applications as well as XML.
QuickLayout's new intelligent pagination and layout technology. Using sophisticated AI based algorithms, QuickLayout 2.0 distributes and places displays across a whole publication in seconds.
Optima Space Reservation
A world-first system from APS for multi-title booking and layout, across a publishing enterprise.
Optima Space Reservation (SR) is purpose designed to allow cross booking across a range of titles and those titles can be in different physical locations and on different booking systems.
Optima SR is not necessarily a replacement for your existing booking system (or systems) and may in fact allow ageing systems to remain in service a little longer
Optima Space Reservation will then take all of the criteria in the question above (and more) and then interrogate the existing bookings for the dates in question, open a dummy for the paper on that date and see where the new advertisement can fit (without moving any other ads which can't be moved). It will find all the options available and present them to the enquirer - in layout form - so that they can actually look at where the ad could go and where it would sit on the page. It will handle all publications simultaneously.
Synergy
Synergy is a full newspaper booking system and classified creation tool, built specifically to handle all the functions needed for display and classified booking, scheduling and copy input.
As an integrated module, Synergy combines with QuickLayout, QuickJumpers and QuickClass it will provide you with a complete system from booking to pagination
Synergy provides a range of management reports and is designed to integrate directly with off-the-shelf accounting and billing packages, such as MYOB, QuickBooks, Quicken, Pascal and other similar business reporting packages.
Optima Copy Management
Optima copy management is part of the APS Optima suite. It is a designed to track and manage each piece of advertising artwork from its original concept creation through approval stages to the point where it is used in an edition of the newspaper. Being partly web based it allows managers and dipartite departments to work collaboratively on the artwork and know when everything is ready to publish. More importantly it highlights the missing pieces before the edition is run.
QuickClass
QuickClass places single or multi-column advertisements under their heading, not scattered along the bottom of the page. And, of course, you can move ads around the sections to give Classified the look you want it to have. You control the sequence of classified sections, starting with line ads or displays.
QuickJumper
All advertising EPS files may be drawn into new Quark XPress or Adobe InDesign documents with advertising, positional and display information included. Quick-Jumper also enables advertisement positioning to be automatically updated into the publication as they become available or have been changed.
Better yet, it allows the Chief Sub Editor and Production Manager to create documents the way they want them ... whole paper, section of paper, or range of pages? All without affecting the formidable power of Quark XPress or In-Design.

Importantly, each household is allocated to a clearly defined, "real world" segment and new methodology has been employed where segments are based on key data dimensions, not just formed on the basis of statistical difference.
These key data dimensions include each household's capacity, propensity to spend and opportunity to spend which are the essential elements in understanding any consumer spending behaviour.
Pathfinder Competition Analyser
The Pathfinder Competition Analyser allows companies to bring together information about their clients and their competition to gain a much clearer understanding of where they sit in their market space and discover, analyse and plan for new opportunities in different locations right around Australia.
S&V has extensive industrial engineering expertise with skills in data development, time study, establishing standards, process design and audits and reviews of existing systems across a variety of operations. The result being productivity improvement through performance management, reporting tools and process engineering. Our track record speaks for itself.
C-time
C-time software facilitates the collection and analysis of time data easier than ever without compromising on accuracy or integrity.
When Industrial Engineering first started out 70 years ago, an engineer used a stop watch and a clip board to help them collect their data. In the 1970's, time studies boards were used, a combination of a clip board and a digital stop watch. S&V Operations and Logistics have developed C-Time software which simplifies the data collection and analysis process even further.
C-Time allows users to create an unlimited number of work profiles - with each profile containing up to 32 user definable elements for time study. Hence C-Time can be used to perform time studies on any work process be it manufacturing, logistics or administration. C-Time readily interfaces with your bench-top or notebook PC allowing profiles to be created or edited easily before exporting to your PDA. However if need be the profile can be edited on the PDA as well - even during a study if necessary.
The TAC softphone was developed in conjunction with Callsys. It is a computer controlled telephone which allowed an operator to control every aspect of a phone system through their desktop computer. It also brought the ability to directly hook to contact lists enabling searching and direct dialling of any contact with a simple double click of the mouse.
Established in 1991, National Forests & Timber is a tabloid size full colour, full gloss publication that is circulated throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands. Covering news from plantations through logging, sawmilling, timber transport and value-added end products, the paper is widely read by all sectors of the timber industry who want to keep up to date.
VDFC Manager
Redgum's first ever development job was to implement a system that allowed them to track and manage the production of National Forests & Timber newspaper, all the advertisers, subscribers, editions and reporting requirements. It is now 8 years old and still running hassle free, we still drop in from time to time to have a chat and extend the application with new functionality.
Virtue Sheetmetal
Virtue Sheetmetal was a sheet metal manufacturing company that employed around 100 staff and produced a large range of products and custom sheet metal designs.
Virtue Reality
Redgum developed an application with them to manage and track their entire operation from customers, invoices and bill of materials through to tracking stock movements, red tags, engineering drawings and clock on/clock off systems. The only part of the business not managed by this application was the accounts which we integrated with one of the standard accounting packages, though we did handle the invoicing functionality.
